Substance Abuse Counselor
“When I began my supervision with Bonnie I had been so aggravated with my past supervisor that I was almost to the point of giving up working on getting my CSAC. But Bonnie was different and helped me so much. I recently passed my CSAC test and I couldn't have done it without her. I highly recommend her and her services.”

My background in the field of addiction treatment
I graduated cum laude from Lenoir-Rhyne University with a double major in human services and psychology.
I began working as a substance abuse counselor in Greensboro, NC at a medication assisted treatment program (methadone and suboxone) for opioid dependence.
I began working towards my certification as a substance abuse counselor at this time.
I graduated with distinction with my master's degree in professional counseling from Liberty University.
I then completed my certification in VA as an advanced alcohol and drug counselor (AADC).
I was promoted to program director of a new MAT program in Danville, VA, a program I had the honor of opening from scratch. Through this process I was able to learn the administrative side of MAT and was blessed to work one on one with new patients and counselors.
After completing my certification as an advanced addiction counselor, I also became a certified clinical supervisor in the state of VA.
I moved to Greenville, SC and continued to work as a program director for the next 3 years with two different MAT programs. I expanded my clinical supervision work to the counselors there and obtained national certification as a Master's Addiction Counselor (MAC).
I moved from a program director role to become the area clinical supervisor for 8 clinics in NC and SC for a national MAT program, supervising over 40 counselors at a time.
I then became licensed as an addiction counselor in the state of SC.
I opened a private practice for clinical supervision which I named Advanced Addiction Supervision. While continuing to work for a national MAT program, I began to expand services throughout NC and SC.
Eventually, after taking off in supervision, I opened my private practice to once again begin seeing clients for alcohol and drug counseling. I opened my office in downtown Greer, where I operate today.
Popular Questions
I am a fully certified clinical supervisor with the NCASPPB in North Carolina, and SCAADAC in South Carolina. So I am able to provide supervision hours for the CADC, LCAS, CCS.
Well, that depends on your individual needs. In individual counseling we may do exam prep for your certification/license exams, we may talk about client issues, we may talk about theory and philosophy, or you may just want to vent for an hour. Dyad and group supervision will typically be more structured, with a counseling-related topic being taught and presented with opportunity for discussion and feedback. All of my supervision is individualized and flexible.
No. I am no longer in private practice so I do not have clients for you. My supervisees usually work a full time job where they are seeing clients for their experience hours.
I pride myself on the fact that approximately 85% of my counselors pass their exams on the first attempt. I have a tried and true method of preparation and way of assessing when you're ready to take you exam.
